RE: PPL Motor Homes

I sold my TT thru them 2 years ago. It cost me 10%, but they got more for it than I could of. It was gone in 2 weeks too. I was a pleased seller, and would use them again.

RE: Dodge 5.9 vs 6.7

If I were in the market I would be looking for a 5.9. As mentioned before the book is still out onthe 6.7, and the MPG's are better.

RE: Have you added a 2nd A/C to your rig ?

Tinting the windows will help a lot, or cover them with insulated foil. The portable AC really does it for us. It stores in a closet in the bedroom, and rolls out to be plugged in. It's a 9k BTU model, but there are differnt sizes of them.

RE: Have you added a 2nd A/C to your rig ?

I recently bought a portable AC for the bedroom of our trailer. I ducted the hot air out thru a roof vent, and ran a seperate power cord outside. I can plug the portable's power right into the power pedestal, and the trailer's power is as normal. I didn't really want to add a second roofmount AC due to the cost & weight. We don't need a second AC all the time, but in 90+ degree heat & full sun we needed more. We go to the beach for the weekend 4 or more times a summer.

RE: buying new 5'er TV question

I don't think you would have a problem. I am pulling a 11.7K lb fifth with a Dodge 3/4 CTD. Look into overload springs & a stabilizer bars for front & rear. You should be alright. Don't exceed the GCWR & GAWR for the truck.

RE: "Almost" makes me want a manual tranny

I like my manual, but can't talk on the cell phone while driving at all.

RE: Tow Veh Purchase?

First off a 37ft fifth wheel doesn't weigh 1656 LBS. The best advice I've seen so far is to buy the economy car, and hire out the occasional trailer moves; however, if your buying a truck make it a 1 ton dually. You will need it for pin weight.

RE: Help with wiring 2nd A/C in front bedroom

I have a 32ft Hitchhiker 2, and just bought a portable air conditioner for the front. I didn't want to go thru the hassel of wireing & installing another AC. We tried it last weekend. 94 degrees outside, and full sun. The inside temp was 76, and both the trailer's AC & the portable AC were cycleing on & off like they should. I'm happy cause Mommas happy & cool.

RE: A bit of a shock at the weigh scale/trip report...

Gonna get rid of the 02 huh. I run about the same weight as you, but have a little more on the rear axel. I have a little less on the trailer axels. I have the 6 speed, and 20k GCWR. I stay under the GCWR & GAWR. I think they are the most important. I hope you like the new 07 when you get it. I don't put enough miles on mine now to justify a new one. I wouldn't take a 6.7 though. I would trade up to a new 5.9 if money was no biggie. Have fun on your trip. And yes Dodge/Cummins 3/4 tons are under rated. If you have the "camper Package" with a diesel in an 01 or 02 you basically got a 1 ton SRW. They didn't label or make a 1 ton SRW untill 03.

RE: Am I getting a good deal??

I traded a 99 2500 Dodge gasser in 2.5 years ago (125K mi.), and only got $6K for it then. I bought an 01 2500 Cummins 79K miles for $13.5. I would say that truck is to high.

RE: 5th Wheel Ultra Light Quality Ratings?

That's a cool website for the ratings of the different RV's. I haven't seen it before. I would look at least a 3/4 ton for a 30ft fifth wheel. 9K lbs is pretty light for one though. Check out the new Open Range brand. My neighbors have one, and are happy with it.

RE: Rear Storage rack

Don't use pipe for a rack. Use angle or I beam. It should work, but stay aware of the weight you put there.

RE: Is there a market for used RV tires?

I sold 2 of my E rated Goodyears for $50 on craigslist. They were near new, but 7 years old. I think I should've listed them for higher as they went in a half hour, and I had 5 calls before I could pull the add.

RE: Towing without W/D bars

I used mine because it felt more stabil when towing. I didn't need it as my old TT was only 4500 lbs, and I have a 2500 Dodge; however, It towed better with them.

RE: K&N air filters

If you do use a K&N, or other oiled filter watch out for the oil build up on the MAP sensor. Also make sure to clean it as schedualed. I think there is more to be lost than gained by running one though.

RE: Need help on 5th Wheel Clearance

The only problem I can think of would be a high center of gravity. Might not be fun in higher winds. That & low hanging branches & bridges.

RE: 2nd AC size for 36L5S Silverback Fifth Wheel

We opted for a portable 9k btu for the bedroom. It's only needed in the middle of 90 degree day in full sun, so I didn't want to go to the expense & weight of another roof mount.

RE: fuel addtives

If your concerned about the lubricity of ULSD put some 2 cycle oil in with your fuel. It's about 8 dollors a gallon at Walmart. Make sure it's the ashless/smokeless stuff. TC-W3 I think. It's in a blue jug.

RE: Running from a hurricane with the 5er

We did take our RV when evacuating Rita, and it was good. We had a bathroom, Kitchen, and room for some stuff to take with us. We made it to Livingston in 10 hours, and then went on to Bryon/College Station area. It wasn't that bad to pull in the traffic. I was thankfull I had a diesel as all the stations were out of gasoline, but had diesel fuel. To all the people who say "Leave Early". That's what people would do if their employers would cut you loose earlier; however, no one is going to leave early & not have a job when they return.

RE: Bunk House....kids really use it?

I go to sleep before DS does most nights. I wanted a rear living room anyway, and only bought the bunkhouse for him to have his own space. If he didn't care about having his own space, I will take my living room space.
